About me

Hi! My name is Andrew Hubbard. I am a Lifetime USCF Master and 3x Michigan State Champion living in Saline, Michigan (just south of Ann Arbor). I also have the title of FIDE master as the winner of the 2010 World Amateur Chess Championship.

I learned how to play chess from my dad shortly before my 4th birthday, and I was the strongest player on my chess team from second grade onwards. I currently have a USCF rating of 2280 and a FIDE rating of 2140. I earned the title of FIDE Master in March of 2010, and the title of Lifetime USCF Master in September of 2017.

I recently started a full-time job as a Senior Research Analyst analyzing automotive data. I may be open to giving chess lessons outside of my regular working hours if you are interested in that.

Playing experience

Here are some of my greatest chess accomplishments:

K-3 Illinois state champion (1996)
8th grade US national champion (2001)
World Amateur chess champion (2010)
3rd place, Michigan Open (2015)
1st place, Michigan Open (2016)
1st place, Michigan Open (2017)
1st place, Chicago Open U2300 Section (2017)

Teaching methodology

I use the Lichess "Studies" feature for board sharing, and I use Zoom or Skype for voice chat in all of my lessons.

I normally use the first lesson to assess what my students' strengths and weaknesses are, and plan future lessons to cover a variety of topics with a focus on whatever needs the most improvement. If you can share some of your games that you would like to go over, that will help.

Please send me a message here on Lichess, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you.
