What happened to chess etiquette?

Why do so many people on this site leave the game when they are losing instead of resigning? This makes their opponent sit and wait till lichess decides they have left the game. Are today's players so sensitive that they can not "man-up" and admit that the other player might be better than they are? Maybe Lichess needs to install a safe room for these poor losers. Just because they are playing anonymously, doesn't excuse their disrespect for their opponent.
It's the same reason people don't resign in hopeless positions - no respect for themselves (in admitting "I royally messed up - I deserve to lose. Next time, I won't do that") or their opponent.
Interner happened to chess etiquette. And popularity. Wanna better mannered players online switch to Go - not perfect but way better. OTB both games offer good mannered behaviour
Well not resigning is probably good practice at any level under master - your opponent can always blunder or end up in a stalemate position. Leaving the game, on the other hand, is just bad manners.
Chess etiquette is overruled by Internet etiquette. Internet etiquette is derived from Car Driving etiquette. ;-)

One other thing that is I was taught as etiquette but seems to not be commonplace amongst some of my (otherwise quite sensible) opponents are about draw offers: most of the draw offers I get are in positions where I am better. The opponent seems to hope I won't take any risks and sign the treaty instead.

I was taught as a kid you should only offer a draw when you have slight advantage but have no ideas (anymore) how to convert it (in which case draws are usually accepted).
Some people who quit don't think anything will happen when they quit. They lost the game, they know it, and figure they can just close the program. When I was younger I did stuff like that on the computer. It's a type of embarrassment that I didn't want to face. Don't take it personally because you really don't know why they quit.

In some circumstances some players may even try to use it to squeeze out a win by hoping to make a move last minute and hoping I won't see it. This will never work for me. Example, when I click the 15+15 I anticipate a 45 minute game. We agreed to the time. Now if the opponent wants to throw a tantrum and waste their time "ragequitting" then that's their choice. I'll be more then happy to open up some puzzles on the side or watch a video while they decide their next move. If anything, it means I've won the game and I just need to ensure it.

tl:dr - Poor online behavior is always going to be a thing. Don't let it upset you and use the report function when you can.
