Delay v Increment

After the Kasparov v Team America match I was thinking about the benefits of a three second delay as opposed to a three second increment.

I think delay is a great way to stiff Time Bandits by making them play chess. Pre-move, hand speed and aimless checking has no value. Delay nullifies any benefit of faster internet connection and probably produces a different rhythm to the game. If you can think and move in 3 seconds you lose no time and can only be defeated by the better move.

Certainly I'd love to give it a go on a great chess site. *cough cough* lichess *cough cough* developers.
"If you can think and move in 3 seconds you lose no time and can only be defeated by the better move."

Isn't that the same with 3 seconds increment instead of delay?
I think there's a difference Callidous. With increment you can build up a timebank through pre-move and spite checking, plus any advantage from hand speed or lag.

With delay all these things don't give you extra time.
The decrease of time is stress. Forces the player to look for the best moves is good. But a lot of parties with such a control will not play. Since the required strict concentration. The usual time control - more good, in relation to the player.
I'd love to see this too.

It's the best of both worlds - you can still realistically win by being better on the clock (severe time pressure forcing mistakes) but you still should win completely straightforward endgames. And you can be reasonably confident that the game will finish in a certain amount of time.
I completely agree with the original poster of this thread, I would like to see Lichess program in the option of delay in the time control settings. It would simulate a better over-the-board feel in a time scramble imho.
I support delay. Also would like to see multiple time controls.
If you are given 3 seconds per move and you premove a game, then your clock will never changed.

OTB with increment time set at 0+3, I end up making time.

I like the delay idea, but I believe if the delay feature is used, the premoves should be automatically disabled for that particular tournament.

Delay Tournaments should help to play better chess.
