Lichess: Year in Review 2023

I like the section about finances, a refreshing addition.

What's up with the "sexual harassment" report type though? I hardly believe it's the most common type of insult/TOS infringement, unless things have changed drastically in the past two years. What's the reasoning?

Also, do you really have to make your first three sections of the blog begging for volunteer help/money? You didn't used to be like this.
Thanks and Congrats.
That's a nice, lovely dog. What is his role within the Lichess Team?
Well done Lichess and happy New Year!

I suggest to complete the games base (opening database) with games older than 1952. It would be so nice to also find the great games of the past (with mythical players like Capablanca, Alekhine, Lasker, etc.).

I wasn't involved in this decision but I support it and can see many reasons for it. Something not being commonly reported is not a good indicator for it not being a problem, or common. I think this addition signals to users that sexual harassment will be taken seriously and is an appropriate report to send. It's so common in the world for nothing to be done about reports of sexual harassment. Lichess doesn't have to be like that.

I don't see it primarily as begging, but a celebration of those who do help and an invitation to get involved if people wish to. As covered in the blog, Lichess has grown massively over the last two years, so it makes sense that more support is needed compared to the past (and fortunately is being provided by the community). I frequently see comments around the internet that show that knowledge of Lichess being a charity and community run is limited, so letting people know how Lichess works is important.

Of course, all these views are personal.
Happy New Year everyone! Enjoy this awesome New year and this AWESOME Lichess :)

excellent idea ! I think that as some sites offer free pgn of games prior to 1952, even if the problem is that there is no elo for these players of the past
By the way, the video library is not adapted to the telephone format (on the server at least), I would be interested if there is a change in the format

The elo doesn't begin until the mid-1970s. Before games were recorded automatically with electronic chess boards, the games preserved were essentially those published in magazines, and therefore almost exclusively those of the very best players of the time.

We could imagine a new tab: historical games or games from the pre-computer era, etc.

Several free chess databases are available. For example, Ed Schroder's MillionBase 2.5 ( rebel13.nl/rebel13/rebel%2013.html ) or CaissaBase (which, I believe, includes the previous one): http://caissabase.co.uk/
Happy new year to all! Wish you guys a wonderful year! And also, wish you guys a great Martian Luner King Jr day!
